The inverted Stargraph
A short cosmic horror(?) thingy
Inspired by this one quirky aspect of the black riage mountain range from the Numenera ttrpg, I wrote this little bit about a spooky pyramid thingy
Entry #516: The Inverted Stargraph
Resting atop the highest point of Hellbit Hill is a large, black inverted pyramid with strange, ancient etchings made of flowing gold across its surfaces. On full moons, these etchings glow a cold white and, when seen at the break of day, they are different from the day before. In the nearby village of Brindelnich, the villagers have no knowledge of the pyramid whatsoever, having apparently "never noticed it before". After The Association was informed of this strange phenomenon, scientists were dispatched to study the pyramid and its etchings. They found the etchings to be a very sparsely known variation of the Yon language popular in the Inero Kingdom, which fell almost three thousand years ago. Upon further study, it was discovered two things:
1: The shifting etchings tell a story common to Inero beliefs regarding the deity of death and his reign over their overbearing oppressors. Each full moon would change key names and locations, none ever able to be located in historical text.
2: There are consistent patterns throughout the etchings that persist across moonshifts. These patterns are akin to the constellations the Inero Kingdom worshipped. Strangely, however, the stars are not accurate to how they presently are, nor how they would be around the time of Inero. Astronomers were able to discover, however, that the stars depicted in the etchings, while not presently accurate to the specific plot of stars, predict the celestial placement exactly 29 days from now.
